Laughing Gas: Everything You Need To Know

Posted on 8/21/2023 by Evan
Laughing Gas: Everything You Need To KnowWe also know laughing gas as nitrous oxide or happy gas. It is non-flammable, colorless, and sweet-smelling. When combined with oxygen, medical professionals use it in medical and dental procedures.

They administer the gas using a small mask that is placed over your nose. You will then have to breathe and then the gas will take full effect. The gas takes effect almost immediately and lasts between 1 to 2 minutes. It helps to relieve anxiety before dental procedures. It helps the patients to relax before the procedure begins.

What Are the Benefits of Laughing Gas?

Earlier on, we stated doctors use laughing gas in dental and medical procedures. Although the gas will not put you to sleep, it has many other benefits. Laughing gas is a pain reliever. When dentists use the gas, it slows down your brain and body's response. This will stop you from experiencing pain during the procedure.

The most common use of laughing gas is to help the patient relax. Most people experience a lot of anxiety when visiting the dentist, even if it's just a checkup. The gas helps to get rid of the anxiety that comes with going to the dentist.

Side Effects of Laughing Gas

If used in moderation as recommended by a medical professional, the gas has minor side effects. The majority of people do not report feeling any kind of side effects after dentists administers the gas. Some people experience side effects that include nausea, headaches, sweating, and even shivering. Children may also vomit after the dentist administers the gas. However, only 5% of people experience these side effects.

Only medical professionals should use laughing gas. When used for a recreational purpose, the gas has serious side effects such as heart attacks, lowering blood pressure, fainting, and nerve damage. If you use the gas for a long time for recreational use, it can cause memory loss and psychosis. Thus, it is best to avoid using the gas if it is not under the advice of a medical professional.
