Are you social? Many people call themselves extroverts, which means they love being around people because they energize them. If you are an extrovert, you may let your smile do the talking for you. When you smile, you show six very important teeth that some of our dentists call the Social Six. Here is some information on where the Social Six are and how to make sure your Social Six are as healthy as possible.
Definition of the Social Six
Dentists call the top six teeth in your mouth - your two front teeth, two incisors, and two canines - the Social Six because they are the teeth most likely to be visible to other people. Your Social Six teeth are visible when you smile, laugh, or talk. In terms of first impressions, the Social Six can make your first impressions glorious if your smile is gorgeous white.
Problems With the Social Six
Your front teeth, incisors, and canines have jobs other than being part of the Social Six. These six teeth bite and tear food each time you eat. Usually, the Social Six tear the food into pieces, while the premolars and molars chew and crush the food into even smaller pieces so that your stomach can digest them.
The Social Six are some of the least likely teeth to get cavities. However, that does not mean that the six are forever cavity-free. You may be able to spot a cavity on your Social Six teeth because these teeth are so visible. Cavities show up as brown or black spots that will not go away when you brush them. The sooner you get a cavity filled, the less likely you will have the filling be noticeable.
If you are unhappy with the way your Social Six teeth look, there are ways to fix them. If your top six teeth are crooked, chipped, or cracked, veneers automatically make your teeth whiter and straighter. You may also want to think about wearing aligners to straighten and space your teeth or whitening your Social Six. Need help with your Social Six? Give our office a call today to make an appointment.
